Rock Church outside of Split
Croatian church in Split
Taken

This photo embodies the absolute joys of living in Europe.

Visiting Croatia with Irene, we spent a couple of nights in the seaside resort of Split.  The town is centred by a huge largely intact Roman palace, built by the Emporer Diocletes to retire in.  I was blown away by this.

Anyway one day I decided to go for a random walk out of town whilst Irene was sleeping in (I think).  I saw many beautiful things along the way but none moreso than this rock church.  No sign points to it, it wasn't marked on my tourist map, it was just a great random find.

Europe has so much history, that you get things like this, and despite them being hundreds of years old and having been seen by so many people, you feel like there is an intimacy to the experience, that larger more well worn tourist sites don't have.
