Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain
Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain
Taken

My mother and I did a walk around Dove Lake beneath Cradle Mountain in Tasmania when I visited her whilst working for Google in Sydney for a little while.

The tree in the foreground is I think Australia's only native deciduous tree.  Anyway it was a beautiful day, full of beautiful sights.

I don't think we know what the Aboriginal people of Tasmania called Cradle Mountain.  We destroyed their culture too quickly, and had too little interest into what they had to say for that.

Apparently one of the last free Aboriginal settlements was in this area.  It was a war the Aboriginals could never win, and the Europeans never had the grace not to fight.  There are still Tasmanian Aboriginals, though not full blood, they carry on the ancient proud traditions of their people.
