This was created for an advertisment. They sent us one but it looked so bad I sent them this back as an example of what we wanted. Of course they just used it.
We only owned Squirrel's for a bit over a year. It was a vegan restaurant but we always marketed it as vegetarian because in the early 2000s in Queensland, no one knew what vegan was. I used to say we called it vegetarian not to freak out the squares, though even vegetarian freaks out the particularly square.
I really loved owning it, the food was amazing, and I felt it was such an asset to veganism at the time. People literally went vegan after a meal there, because after eating the best meal you've had in ages, how can you say vegan food is boring. The highlights were the Cajun Tofu and the Japanese Platter.
I didn't help as much as I should have with the restaurant (I was working two jobs and finishing my degree, so was busy but still...) and the hours of a restaurant are very good for a youngish person, someone who doesn't want to go out till 4am, but also wants to go out.
A great year, and some good memories.
