This is perhaps the most beautiful sculpture I have ever seen.

I'm not sure if the name is exactly what I have put above, but I heard it called that once and think it is almost as beautiful phrase as the scuplture is itself.

It is in the Louvre in Paris, which I am lucky enough to have visited on a couple of occasions.

I never really appreciated galleries before I went to live in Europe, and saw such amazing ones, the Tate's in the UK, the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Guggenheim in Bilbao,  the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, as well as the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

Now I love them and have seen most of the great galleries in Australia, including being a regular visitor to QAGOMA and GCA which are a leisurely half hour stroll from my door.

There is something about having the mind opened.  That we don't always by nature perceive things in their fullest depth.  We need to sometimes learn how to see.

I think nature is like this, that it can't be seen as merely a material thing, resources, dangers etc, or it can be seen as a transcendently beautiful mysterious thing having it's own reason to be.  If art can help open our minds to beauty, to see that in nature, then maybe it is a worthy thing.
