An introduction to the Metacrisis

Daniel Schmachtenberger

Daniel Schmachtenberger is one of the great thinkers of our time. He perhaps gives better introductions to the metacrisis, certainly longer ones, but this one is important because of how he starts. In a room full of wealthy, educated people, he almost tells it how it is. That so many people talk about wanting a more sustainable, kinder world, but they don't really seem to do very much towards that end. As he sort of says here, he knows that no matter what he says, how important it is, how much it asks of us, most people will listen politely, even attentively, and then return back to their usual way of doing things.

People are locked into ways of being, financial and social, that are hard to escape from, but the only way we will solve the metacrisis is by people freeing themselves enough so that the way they live at least starts to resemble an appropriate response to the metacrisis.I also like that the host doesn't waste too much time, and let's Daniel get on with it.
