My great grandfather at Gallipolo

Here is one of my great grandfathers, on my father's side, at Gallipolli.

I don't know very much about this bit of family history.  I know my grandfather served in the Scottish Rifles, otherwise known as the Cameronians, during the second world war.

Gallipoli has a certain place in the Australian psyche, a place where mythology has it a nation was born.  It was with some surprise I found out I had relatives there in the British Army.  I've read quite a bit of the history now, and as an example of the folly of war, the fallibility of heroes like Churchill, it is one of the more interesting events in the first world war.
