I don't have a television, the main source of news for me is reading and watching the daily broadcast of Democracy Now. Hosted by Amy Goodman, who was one of the reporters who survived the Dili Massacre in East Timor, and Juan Gonzalez, a long time activist who was in the Puerto Rican version of the black panthers, the young lords, Democracy Now considers itself "the exception to the rulers". Independent or alternative media like this is so important in getting a balanced overall view. Of course it has been so successful it has some wonderful guests on it, from Mary Robinson and Noam Chomsky, to the heads of developing nations, to young people in the streets protesting, you get the voices that are so often silent in the mainstream media. Available as a pod cast, downloadable video, transcript and embedded video, plenty of ways to keep up with it.
